Libby Wright - Friends Art Gallery November 2012
LIBBY WRIGHT
My first home was in Mobile, AL. It was my first art experience and continues to filter into all of my paintings as well as the way I look at life. When I think about my purpose in life as well as in painting, it has to be to find the beauty. Sometimes I find beauty at the end of a fishing pole or rusted out old cars. It’s always with us. You just have to see it. Art is a major way of communication and is an adventure waiting for the right explorer.
I started drawing at about the age of five and started art lessons in grammar school. Continuing with art lessons in high school, I finished my formal training with a BA in Fine Art from Samford University. Although I’ve taken lots of workshops and classes, the majority of what I have learned has been from hours of painting by myself. It’s wonderful hard work.
While my children were growing up, I taught children’s art classes at the Church of the Advent as well as in my home. I have also taught adults and done workshops using different media. Pastels were introduced to me in grammar school and I still love them today. I started using watercolor in college and have never stopped. Sometimes I mix the two. Learning about art is a win / win situation. You always take it with you.
